Utiel

Located at the foot of the Sierra del Negrete, Utiel has Iberian and Roman origins and has a clear Arab influence in its urban layout, where you can admire mansions and other typical architecture of the Christian Middle Ages and noble lineages. Underneath the city lies a network of preserved galleries used for shelter and storage.

The Sanctuary of the Virgen del Remedio, which was originally a hermitage built in 1564, is located 10 km from the town. The Sanctuary has several places of interest, especially in the main building, which houses the chapel, the chapel of the Virgin, the crypt of Juan de Argés and the votive offerings museum. Furthermore, visitors can explore the area associated with the legend of the Virgin's apparition, enjoy refreshments at the Pilgrim's House, or take a seat to rest and admire the beautiful natural landscape surrounding the Sanctuary.

In the town centre, you can explore the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, built in late Gothic style (16th century), the Convent of La Merced, displaying the shield of the Order of the Mercedarians on its façade, and the Convent of San Francisco, established towards the late 17th century. Other significant buildings include the Town Hall, the Plaza de Toros La Utielana, the oldest in the Valencian Community, inaugurated in 1858 and home to the Bullfighting Museum, the Almázar, hosting the Museum of Honey and Wax and featuring rare equipment for extracting wax from bee panels, and the Bodega Redonda, serving as the headquarters of the Regulatory Council of the Utiel-Requena Designation of Origin. This site houses the collections of the Wine Museum of the Valencian Community.

Utiel has several wineries that produce excellent wines to enjoy and accompany its rich gastronomy, which includes some products recognised with the "CV" Utiel Gastronomic Quality Mark.

Utiel hosts several significant annual celebrations, such as the Fair and Festivities honouring the Virgen del Remedio in the first half of September, pilgrimages on 6 September and the last Sunday of October dedicated to the Virgen del Remedio, and a Gastronomic Fair in mid-October.
